Long Live the Forest (Viva a Mata)

vamLong Live the Forest (Viva a Mata) is the main event of SOS Mata Atlântica and serves as a reference for events about the biome in Brazil. Created in 2005 to celebrate the Foundation’s 18th anniversary, it has become an annual event, held during the week of Atlantic Forest Day (May 27).

Hundreds of NGOs, researchers, government agencies and companies throughout Brazil that have anything to do with the Biome’s conservation efforts and sustainability gather in São Paulo to attend exhibitions, lectures, debates, concerts, plays, performances, interactive workshops, environmental education, volunteering and mobilization activities.

With the theme “Atlantic Forest, our home”, Long Live the Forest had its tenth anniversary in 2014, with five interactive pavilions (Sea, Forest, Urban, Forest and Water Creatures), as well as lectures in the Foundation’s truck, seminars at the School of Astrophysics and walks in the park for interaction with nature and learning about the fauna and flora.

Thousands of people attended the three-day event and more than 6,000 people participated in the pavilion activities, while 900 students from public and private schools and scout groups went on guided tours. Over 400 people, including partners, celebrities, journalists and the Foundation’s staff attended the opening ceremony.

Taking into account all the events of Long Live the Forest up until 2014, 384 exhibitors from around the country have been hosted and more than 815 thousand people have attended the event.
