Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPN) Support Program

Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPN) Support Program

This Program was created in 2003 by an initiative of SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation and Conservation International, as part of the Alliance for the Conservation of Atlantic Forest, with the goal of supporting the creation and implementation of private reserves.

The performance of the program can be divided into four components: support for projects; institutional strengthening, public policy and awareness. In 2013, the program has completed 10 years, accounting support for the creation of 392 new private reserves and for the management of more 102 reserves. These areas totalize 57.000 hectares of protected forests. The program invested over 8 million dollars in activities to strengthen the private reserves so far, with nearly 6 million allocated directly to projects of creation and management of private reserves in the Atlantic Forest. The program has also supported 11 publications on this theme.
