Atlantic Forest is Here

Fist launched in 2009, the project customized a truck to travel around the Brazilian cities locate in the Atlantic Forest, disseminating information about the importance and influence of the biome, and carrying out fun and educational activities on socio-environmental themes.

The truck offers all the necessary materials for environmental education activities such as workshops, video screenings, educational games, collecting water for monitoring local rivers, and a “Quiz on iPads”, for visitors to test their knowledge of the biome.

Over the past year, the exhibition toured 24 locations, with the participation of 206 local institutions, 240 school groups and 41 volunteers. It engaged in a total of 226 days of activities, and monitored 24 rivers. Combined with the previous years, the project has visited about 150 Brazilian cities in 17 states in the Atlantic Forest coverage area.

Altogether, the truck has traveled over 60,000 kilometers throughout the country and has been visited by more than 560,000 people. In addition, the initiative has monitored more than 166 bodies of water and involved hundreds of NGOs, institutions and departments in its activities.

In 2014, in the project’s 6th cycle, the truck will visit 19 additional cities and towns in the Southeast and South of the country.

The project is sponsored by Bradesco Credit Cards and Volkswagen Trucks & Buses, and is also supported by several partner institutions in each city.

The truck’s emissions are offset by plantations established by the Forests of the Future program.
